Hair flairs: Do we seriously think Oprah would ever wear these?

These have been around for a few years now. They have been popular since the first time Beyonce wore them. They are a great hair trend! I have put many on different clients...old and young. It adds shine/sparkle to the hair. They also come in an array of colors. It can be worn as a one day thing or for weeks. Cost is usually around $5 per strand. Be sure to call me if interested. -Marie

Leave it to Oprah Winfrey to use a "Where are they now?" show to set off a fashion trend.

Friday (Jan. 28), Oprah revisited some of the most memorable couples who have appeared on her show over the years, including Trina Marr whose husband Trevor was obsessed back in 2004 with the fact that she had gained weight.

While happy that Trina walked off the stage back then, dumped the husband and then dumped the weight (thanks to Roller Derby), Oprah was a bit distracted by the sparkly pieces of tinsel in Trina's hair. Oprah said she wanted some for herself and Trina replied that she could help her out because she just so happens that she owns the company -- Hair Flairs -- that produces them.

A double high-five followed.

The Marcia Teixeira ® Brazilian Keratin Treatment ™

The Marcia Teixeira ® Brazilian Keratin Treatment ™

. . . a revolutionary process that repairs damaged hair
to leave it soft, shiny and frizz free for up to 4 months.
space

The Brazilian Keratin Treatment ™ is:

- Quick - On average, the treatment takes one stylist 1 ½ to 2 ½ hours depending on the lenght and texture of the hair.

- Affordable - It brings the price of silky straight hair to a reasonable level, expanding your customer base while remaining an upscale process.

- Universal -
It can be used on dyed or highlighted hair. In fact, it can be used on any type of hair.

- Gentle - It is NOT meant to be permanent and it DOES NOT require neutralizer or immediate rinse. It requires redoing approximately every 3 to 4 months.
That is why you can leave it on the client's hair and walk away if you have to. That is why you can use it on children. That is why it blends with the natural growth of hair.

- Natural -
It does NOT use strong chemicals to open and close the hair cuticle in an effort to straighten it, “breaking the bonds” of the hair shaft. Keratin is a natural substance which comprises approximately 88% of your hair.

- Healthy- It penetrates the hair repairing internal damage and coats the hair preventing further damage. The results are SOFT, SHINY, STRAIGHT hair.

- Easy - Begin with a shampoo designed to open the cuticle. Saturate the hair with the product (an average of 3 ounces). Blow dry. Iron small sections of hair close to the scalp with a low heat flat iron. Iron the entire head with a high heat flat iron to seal the keratin into the cuticle.

- Simple - Do NOT wet, wash or use any clips or pins (or anything) on your hair for FOUR days. After the fourth day, shampoo and condition your hair with products free of sodium chloride and sulfates, which will strip the keratin from the hair. Our specially formulated line of shampoos and conditioners are the best available for maintaining the most long-term results.
The results speak for themselves. As one client said: “I'm so happy I don't need my therapist anymore!”· Good for anyone who has hair.

What Is It?

Keratin is a type of protein high in the amino acid “Cystine.” This special amino acid is what makes hair super tough and extremely elastic. Scientists refer to Keratin as a “Biopolymer,” due to its unique structures and interesting properties. Biopolymers are found throughout nature and give form and structure to naturally occurring substances all around the world; everything from leaves to trees, and turtle shells to goose down. Keratin is a classic example of a Biopolymer and it is the main structure building protein in our hair and nails.

Useful keratin extracts have been long sought after as highly prized cosmetic ingredients. Until recently, high quality keratin extracts were impossible to find on a commercial scale. We utilize a patented process called Keratec® to carefully separate the Keratin from wool, while maintaining its quality…an extremely difficult task to do properly.

The wool is harvested each spring when New Zealand sheep are sheared. This causes absolutely no harm to the sheep that are probably happy to be rid of their heavy winter wool coats before the coming summer heat. We use only pure and natural wool, straight from the farms. New Zealand sheeps’ wool is considered to be amongst the very finest in the world and absolutely free from BSE or anything else that would be potentially harmful.

How Does It Work?

When it comes to keratin, it’s extreme toughness is the key. Keratin’s durability and strength protect and improve the hair both inside and out. Our unique biopolymer ingredient is virtually a “liquid form of hair” that gently blends with the hair on your head to help restore what has been lost over time and through environmental stresses.

What’s the unique benefit to this ingredient? The small size of the Keratin Biopolymer molecules penetrate under the hair’s cuticle and seep into the inner hair shaft, helping to improve the quality of the hair from the inside. The Keratin fills in the gaps between the cuticle and the inner hair shaft and becomes sealed into the hair’s inner structure by the high heat flat iron. As you will soon learn, the Keratin Biopolymer works with other ingredients in the product to help eliminate the frizz and add strength and elasticity.

The Brazilian Keratin Treatment for African American Hair

You like your hair straight, but you're looking for alternatives to pressing, ironing or relaxing to get that glossy mane you want. Maybe you want to try a keratin treatment, which has become increasingly popular in recent years. Known by several different names, including Brazilian Keratin Treatment (BKT for short, an acronym you'll often see on various hair forums) and Brazilian straightening treatment, as well as various brand names, this is the newest craze for getting silky straight hair. Is a BKT suitable for black hair and if so, what can you expect?

"Natural":

Brazilian straightening treatments don't have the tried-and-true chemicals you'll find in typical black hair relaxers, such as sodium hydroxide or calcium hydroxide, or chemicals you'll find in curling perms like ammonium thioglycolate. Your hair is straightened with the active ingredient keratin, a protein very like one of the components of human hair. Keratin works to "naturally" straighten the hair. Fans of the treatment claim that it actually strengthens the hair since keratin is so similar to hair's natural protein.

Previously Processed Hair:

Anyone who relaxes her hair knows that some coloring processes are especially harsh on top of already processed hair. You also can't apply a relaxer to previously relaxed hair without worry of overprocessing. However, a keratin treatment works well on colored, highlighted or previously processed hair.

Time and Cost:

Expect a keratin treatment to take at least a couple of hours to complete, from beginning to end. It's not cheap and depending on where you live, you may find a wide range in price, but expect to pay anywhere between $150 - $350. A stylist applies a keratin solution to your hair, much as she would hair color. Hair is blown dry and then sealed with extreme temperatures of up to 450 degrees. The hot iron is required to seal the formula into the hair's cuticle.

How Long it Lasts:

Unlike relaxers and curly perms, a keratin treatment gradually washes away. You'll notice your hair's natural curl return over time, anywhere from six weeks to a few months. To get the longest lasting results, use shampoos that have a neutral pH.

What to Expect:

For the first several days after the treatment, you won't be able to wash your hair or get it wet. A secure hair cover while in the shower or bath is essential. During this time period, you also won't be able to exercise because sweating is out, as is putting any kind of product on your hair. In addition, for these few days, you can't put your hair into a ponytail, pin it up or even tuck it behind your ears as that will lead to kinks that will stick in your hair. Your hair may be so straight immediately following the treatment that it lacks body, but in time, some volume will return.
